    Essay question: Critically assess the career management challenges that may face employers and employees today. How might they try to overcome these challenges?

    module description: The aim of this module, Human Resource Management: Theory and Practice is to develop an informed, critical understanding of how the management of Human Resources is undertaken, why and with what effect. The focus here is on a critical understanding of the employment relationship within the organisational context. Some students are interested in becoming HR practitioners in their future careers and many wish to become a manager of some form. In both cases the course provides a solid foundation to evaluating different approaches to managing human resources and gain a critical understanding of where they would be appropriate

    General theme description: Careers
    <
    The careers lecture focuses on different ideas of the career. Firstly we examine the idea of the traditional career, and then the rise of new forms of careers and the implications this may have. Finally we look at challenges to the idea of the decline of traditional career and explores why some people may be more likely to have a successful career, before drawing some overall conclusions about on-going career questions and debates

    Issues to consider while writing:

    • What is meant by the term career? Who has a career?
    <
    • What are the career challenges faced in today’s labour market? Discuss the debates that relate to this area.
    <
    • Consider what approaches employees and employers (and HR specifically) could utilise to overcome these issues.

    • Remember the importance of context

    Instructions:

    1. Essay is to be clearly structured into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion.
    <
