Part 1: This will be used to evaluate your competence in comprehending, a This midterm exam will be used to evaluate your competence in comprehending, analyzing, and connecting course materials that we covered during the first half of our class. In displaying such competence, you are expected to be precise, logical, and comprehensive in your answers. You also need to write with clarity, appropriate organization, and adequate sentence-level proficiency. Your grade will be based on how well you perform in attaining these rubrics.

The first part of the midterm is Definition of Terms and the second will consist of two short answer questions.

For the Definition of Terms section, you will be assigned 10 terms. You will briefly provide a definition (one point), and then, also for each, state brief significance (for example, why did we talk about the term? ; what is the larger context of the term? ; how is the term connected with other terms?) (one point).

  1. Part 1 Summarize : Definition of Terms
  • Total of 10 terms
  • For each term, you need to:
  • Give a brief definition (worth 1 point)
  • Provide a brief explanation of its significance (worth 1 point)
  • This significance might include:
  • Why the term was discussed in class
  • The larger context of the term
  • How it connects with other terms/concepts

Definition of TERMS

As part of this section, you will need to do the following: write the term, then label (using the word definition or simply D) and provide a brief definition (one point), and then, label (using the word significance or simply S) and state a brief significance (for example, why did we talk about the term?; what is the larger context of the term?; how is the term connected with other terms?) (one point). The total points you’ll earn for this section of the midterm is 20 points.

Part 2:

Each short answer essay will require you to write accurately and concisely. There is no minimum nor maximum amount that you will need to write, just be sure to answer the questions to the best of your availability. Each short answer question will be worth 20 points, totaling 40 points. Be sure to note which question you are answering. Each essay should be typed on a word-processing document that you must upload into Canvas (No, other file formats nor Google doc links accepted) ; double-spaced, 12-point font size, and in black ink.

There is need for a citation page, since you will not be asked to cite any author that we did not read in class. But when you mention within your essay an author that we read or referred to in class, make sure you spell their name correctly.

  1. Part 2: Short Answer Questions
  • You need to answer two short answer questions.
  • The content and format of these are not specified, but they will test your comprehension, analysis, and ability to connect course concepts.

Submit these by MONDAY February 9th AT 11:59pm. Late submissions will incur an automatic 5 point deduction for every day that it is late. Exams submitted starting at February 10th at 12:00AM will be considered late. No exceptions.
