In this 1-2 page assignment, students are asked to describe specific, detailed and concrete strategies for their professional self-care and prevention of the predictable occupational hazards that may exist in the helping professions. These strategies include personal (physical, emotional, spiritual, relational) organizational, peer based, group and systems advocacy strategies to maintain your competent and ethical practice. The plan can include an acknowledgement of information the student has gained through self assessment of their current level of self care/well-being that are available in the course, and challenges to this that are present from their observations in the internship setting. The plan should describe present challenges to this well-being that the student may encounter in their social work practice, how they will continue to assess/understand if they are experiencing stress at various levels, and what interventions they will engage in that moment at several levels of practice. Format can be informal, use bullet points, grid or essay format, and should maintain APA guidelines, and include resources that inform your strategies.
