Senior capstone

Within the SLWK 499 course, students in groups of 3-4 will complete the following: The capstone groups will propose an initiative/project that demonstrates the summation of their professional training and commitment to social justice and anti-oppressive practices. For example, competency 4 is Engage in Practice-informed Research and Research-informed Practice. Capstone groups should share how their project/initiative is grounded in relevant practice informed research as well as how they intend to apply that research to inform their proposed action. This should include a proposed intervention or initiative on campus, at a local agency, or within a larger community context. Each group should explain how the proposed project/initiative addresses all nine competencies and related practice behaviors. Students should review the Council of Social Work Educations’ competencies and utilize them as a guide when considering appropriate projects and interventions. The capstone project should be presented in a collaborative digital presentation that each member of the groups will work on together. The presentation should include an overview of the project/initiative, why it is relevant/and or what problem it addresses, and how the proposed project/initiative meets or addresses each one of the competencies and practice behaviors. Group charters will be required for each capstone group. Below are some examples of social problems to consider as your groups work to develop a specific project or initiative. Feel free to use one of them or select an issue that is of particular interest to you/your group. Topic: Homelessness: Your group proposes a new cold weather shelter and feeding initiative in Richmond City with accessibility and transportation in mind. on my part I will focus on this Yakima Competency 7: Assess Individuals, Families, Groups, Organizations, and Communities apply theories of human behavior and person-in-environment, as well as other culturally responsive and interprofessional conceptual frameworks, when assessing clients and constituencies; demonstrate respect for client self-determination during the assessment process by collaborating with clients and constituencies in developing a mutually agreed-upon plan. Competency 8: Intervene with Individuals, Families, Groups, Organizations, and Communities engage with clients and constituencies to critically choose and implement culturally responsive, evidence-informed interventions to achieve client and constituency goals; incorporate culturally responsive methods to negotiate, mediate, and advocate with and on behalf of clients and constituencies. Competency 9: Evaluate practice with Individuals, Families, Groups, Organizations, and Communities select and use culturally responsive methods for evaluation of outcomes; critically analyze outcomes and apply evaluation findings to improve practice effectiveness with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.
