Behavioral Skill Training Plan and Literature Review

Overview

The most important part of a behavior analyst’s role is training and coaching others to use behavior analytic concepts and principles. There is a whole body of research that exists in the instructional coaching field, specific to training others in an education setting. In the behavior analytic field, this is usually accomplished with behavior skills training (BST). This assignment will help you branch outside of the field of behavior analysis to discover relevant research in a related field, and help you discover best practices for training others to use behavior analytic and evidence-based techniques at the school-wide and classroom levels.

Preparation

To prepare for this assignment, complete the following:

You may find journals such as Theory Into Practice, Journal of Positive Behavior Interventions, and Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis helpful in your search. Instructions

Write a research paper that includes the following:

• Compare and contrast coaching versus training.
• Identify and evaluate best practices in coaching and training others to implement a new evidence-based instructional or behavioral procedure.
  • What strategies work the best?
  • What support have you found in your research?
• Explain the ethical considerations you need to keep in mind as you develop coaching and training strategies. Be sure to refer to the Capella Compassion Code and the BACB ethics codes to support your discussion.
• Develop a long term (316 weeks) coaching implementation and training plan that you would use with staff to train a new skill.
  • How would you take into account the culture and the system (district) where you’re working?
