Purpose

In this assignment, you will design two developmentally appropriate learning activities for children ages Pre-K to 8 years old:

1. One activity based on Piagets Theory of Cognitive Development
2. One activity based on Vygotskys Sociocultural Theory

You will use AI as a learning partner by having the AI role-play as:

• Piaget (the teacher)
• Vygotsky (the teacher)

You (the student) will take on the role of a classroom teacher, learning from each theorist and creating classroom activities based on their guidance.

Ethical Use of AI Guidelines

You may use AI to:

• Ask Piaget/Vygotsky questions about their theories
• Request clarification of concepts (assimilation, accommodation, ZPD, scaffolding, etc.)
• Brainstorm activity ideas
• Refine your own ideas

You must:

• Write the final activity in your own words
• Show a clear understanding of each theory
• Do not copy AI responses word-for-word
• Cite AI assistance

AI is your coach, not your replacement.

Step 1: Role-Play with AI (Process Requirement)

Part A: Piaget as Teacher

Prompt AI something like:

You are Jean Piaget. I am a Pre-K2 teacher. Teach me how to design a classroom activity based on your theory of cognitive development.

Ask at least 23 follow-up questions, such as:

• How does this activity support active learning?
• Which stage of development is this for?
• How do children construct knowledge in this activity?

Part B: Vygotsky as Teacher

Prompt AI something like:

You are Lev Vygotsky. I am a teacher designing a learning activity for young children. Teach me how to create an activity using your theory, including social interaction and scaffolding.

Ask at least 23 follow-up questions about:

• Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD)
• Role of language
• Teacher or peer support

Step 2: Design Your Two Activities

Choose one learning concept (examples: shapes, counting, emotions, plants, storytelling, problem solving).

Then complete the table below for each theorist. At the bottom of the document, you also must include the AI transcripts.

Write a short reflection (12 paragraphs):

• How did using AI as Piaget and Vygotsky help you understand the theories better?
• What differences did you notice between the two teaching approaches?
• How will this experience help you as a future teacher?
