Ethical decision-making in the case ‘Girls Night Out’

This assignment builds upon the following assignments you submitted previously: Module 4 Assignment: Identification, Research, Analysis Module 5 Assignment: Application – Act Utilitarianism Module 6 Assignment: Application – Kantian Ethics Be sure to review the feedback you received from those assignments, and make any necessary revisions BEFORE moving forward with this assignment. Focusing on the same case as before, you will now complete the last three steps of the critical thinking process: 5) Decision, 6) Evaluation, and 7) Reflection. Again, read the case in the Ethics e-textbook Chapter 25: Case 2 – Girls Night Out. Since there is no Smart book quiz you will access Chapter 25 through the e-book, Table of Contents. Go to: The Ethics E-Textbook Access Module Click on the Ethics E-Textbook Link. Click on the icon/picture of your Ethics e-text or the words Lauch E-textook, depending upon your view. You will use the Table of Content (click on hamburger (three horizontal lines) in the upper left corner) to access Chapter 25 and locate the Case. Follow the Sample Format: Decision, Evaluation, Reflection, and submit to this Assignment using MLA formatting. Complete this assignment, as follows: Decision (150 words minimum) Consider the main ethical/moral issue you previously identified in Module 4. Answer the “should” question by stating the option you determined to be the wisest and most ethical. For example, The most ethical decision is for _____ to… Be impartial. Avoid any bias; do not express your own personal opinion; do not use the words, “I think” or “I feel.” The decision should be based upon your completion of the previous steps of the critical thinking process: 1) Identification, 2) Research, 3) Analysis and 4) Application of Act Utilitarianism and Kantian Ethics. Clearly justify and support your decision. For example, This decision is morally justified because… Discuss how the results of determining Net Utility and applying Universality and Respect-for-Persons informed your decision. A justification is necessary – there is no better option. What would justify your decision to all of the stakeholders? Evaluation (150 words minimum) To evaluate your decision, play “devil’s advocate.” Think of some objections or arguments someone could make against your decision. List three potential objections to your decision, and then write a defense against each objection. Each defense should be based upon an ethical theory and/or logic. For example, if you determined that the most ethical decision is for Jack to report Jill’s stealing to the boss, one objection might be, If Jack informs his boss, Jill might retaliate against him. A defense against that objection could be, Jack believes reporting misconduct is his moral duty, and, therefore, overrides any concern of possible retaliation. (Kantian Ethics) Objection 1 – For example, If Jack informs his boss, Jill might retaliate against him. Defense – For example, Jack believes reporting misconduct is his moral duty, and, therefore, overrides any concern of possible retaliation. (Kantian Ethics) Objection 2 – Defense – Objection 3 – Defense – Reflection (150 words minimum) Reflect on the critical thinking process and the steps involved. Discuss how this knowledge can or has helped you in your life and/or your career? For example, what do you think of the process? What did you learn from the process? Could it bring value to making decisions in your life or career? Would you use it in the future? Would you use it, or parts of it, in your everyday life? Have you used it in your everyday life? Do not write about the case itself, the decision you reached, or what you thought should or should not have happened relating to the case. This includes but is not limited to Grammarly (which is normally found in MS Word), Translator, Copilot, Chat GPT and all other AI programs, as they will flag your work as AI written. It is your responsibility to open and check your Copy Leaks report, after submitting an Assignment, for both the plagiarism/originality (shown by a percentage and a report) and AI use (shown by report only). Resubmit ASAP as needed. Ethics involves Critical Thinking and AI cannot critically think. Ask AI as it will confirm this. AI also plagiarizes from the internet. Both are academic honesty violations. Please know, I realize some of these AI programs are very good and can be very helpful in completing work, but in this course, I need you to do the critical thinking and brainstorming yourself. You can think divergently while AI cannot. You can think critically, while AI cannot. You can self- reflect and improve your thinking based on your self-reflection, while AI cannot. You can take into consideration human emotions (EQ) while AI cannot. These are the skills we all want to improve in this course. AI cannot help us. Also, know, in my use of AI, I have found many errors in AI responses. Luckily, I know the subject matter and I can identify these errors as you will too, after you learn the material. So please do not think I am against AI. It does have its place, but it is not helpful for leaning in this class. I hope this is helpful.
