Overview A descriptive or direct assessment is sometimes included in the FBA. Conducting the descriptive assessment requires you to observe the target behaviors and measure baseline data of the behaviors. A behavior is effective and relevant if it can mediate changes in the environment. Evaluating the stimulus changes co-occurring with the behavior can help us hypothesize the functional reinforcers that are influencing them. Instructions For this assignment, your instructor will provide you with a case study and a template. From the information provided in the case study, you will complete the following activities within the provided template: Describe the scientific rigor(s) exemplified by conducting the descriptive assessment. Describe the benefits and limitations of conducting a descriptive assessment. Provide an operational definition of the concerning behavior. Quantify the target behavior observed in the five observation periods by using a line graph to display the data. Be sure to construct an APA compliant graph. Describe the trend of the data path. Complete the contingency diagrams. Complete the ABC-QA for attention, tangible, and demand. Display the results of the ABC-QA by using a bar graph. Provide an interpretation of the bar graph and conclude the hypothesized function(s) influencing the target behavior. Summarize the compassionate and/or cultural variables one should consider when conducting a descriptive assessment. Be sure to use supporting evidence such as journal articles and/or the Capella Compassion Code. Be sure to complete the self-assessment grading rubric included in the template. Be sure to incorporate values of compassion and cultural humility when choosing measurement procedures and conducting the descriptive assessment. Explain the benefits and limitations and the level of scientific rigor of a descriptive assessment. Competency 3: Apply knowledge of functions of behavior. Quantify the target behavior observed in the five observation periods (provided in the case study) by using a line graph to display the data. Describe the trend line of the data path. Complete the contingency diagrams for all behaviors, but include some errors on identifying the stimulus change. Complete the ABC-QA for attention, tangible, and demand. Display the results of the ABC-QA by using a bar graph with no graphing errors, but some data is incorrect. Provide an interpretation of the bar graph and conclude the hypothesized function(s) influencing the target behavior, with minimal errors. Competency 4: Apply compassionate approaches to assessment procedures. Incorporate values of compassion and cultural humility when conducting the descriptive assessment. Competency 5: Communicate in a manner that is scholarly and consistent with expectations for professionals in the field of psychology. Include grading rubric and a mostly accurate self-assessment, with a few errors. Demonstrate an academic writing style through well-organized prose that follows assignment guidelines. Demonstrate compliance with APA style, citation, and referencing guidelines.
