If I suspected that a therapist was behaving unethically toward a client during my level II fieldwork experience, my first step after consulting with a mentor, such as my Academic Fieldwork Coordinator, would be to clarify the situation at the fieldwork site in a professional and respectful manner. According to Estes and Brandt (2011), students should first identify ethical concerns, gather accurate information, and consider all parties involved before acting. I would approach my fieldwork educator or the therapist privately and ask for clarification to better understand the situations, rather than making assumptions. Hood and Mooney (2024) emphasize the importance of maintaining professional communication and respectful relationships with fieldwork educators, especially when addressing sensitive concerns.

If the situation were confirmed to be truly unethical, I would follow the facilitys established chain of command and reporting procedures. Graduating from an accredited occupational therapy program and passing the NBCOT examination to become certified. At the state level, I must apply for licensure with the Florida Board of Occupational Therapy and complete the required continuing education hours to maintain licensure. These requirements include education related to ethics and professional practice.
