Despite his symptoms, his primary physician failed to order critical diagnostic tests, such as a chest CT scan, during his initial visits. The doctors notes indicated potential signs of lung cancer, but due to a clerical error, the necessary tests were not scheduled. Months later, Mr. Bennetts condition worsened. During a routine checkup, another doctor noticed his deteriorating health and immediately ordered a chest scan. The scan revealed advanced-stage lung cancer, which was aggressive and likely linked to his burn pit exposure. The delay in testing severely reduced Mr. Bennetts treatment options. Mr. Bennett underwent chemotherapy and radiation, but tragically, he passed away 9 months after his diagnosis. Mrs. Bennett believes that the VAs failure to timely diagnose and treat her husbands condition directly contributed to his death. She would like to bring a lawsuit against the Department of Veterans Affairs.
